IPv6 Monitor Documentation
Overview
The IPv6 Monitor is a tool designed to check IPv6 issues on websites. It does not support IPv4.
Infrastructure
- Primary Check: Located on AWS Germany. (ASN: 16509)
- Secondary Check: Located on SERVER-FACTORY in Netherlands. (ASN: 206075)
The tool currently runs on an IPv6-only servers. Please note that locations and ASNs may change in the future.
Uses HEAD requests with a custom User-Agent: "Request sent by IPv6 Checker at v6monitor.com"
Supports HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3
Primary check has a timeout of 1.5 seconds, while the secondary check has a timeout of 0.5 seconds.
Check Types
Domain Check
- Every check runs every 24 hours, and checks with `NO IPv6` runs every 12 hours.
- Shared Check: Checks are shared between users.
- Support HTTP & HTTPS : DNS/MX will added in the future.
- Advance Details: Provides additional information about each check.
- Only Root Path: The tool only checks the root of the domain (e.g., example.com).
- Validates HTTP Status Codes: Considers any HTTP codes as valid, focusing only on connectivity issues.
- HTTP: DNS AAAA record check → Port 80 check
- HTTPS: DNS AAAA record check → Port 443 check
- MX: DNS MX record check → DNS AAAA record check
- DNS: DNS NS record check → DNS AAAA record check
Other advanced checks will be introduced in the future.
DNS
We use Cloudflare's DNS service to retrieve the IPv6 address for the domain being checked. Only one IP address is checked at a time.
Notifications
Currently, only in-site alerts will be available. By default, you are subscribed to all alerts for your domains. You can control this and add alerts or set alert types when you want to be notified.
Email and other alert types will be added in the future.
